Meet Sarah Bennett
The creative masterpieces of my youth involved Play-Doh.
In one form or another, I have been engaged in art and creative activities since I was a child. In the small town of Ottawa, Kansas, where I grew up and attended public school, art classes were always my favorite. My extracurricular activity of choice during junior high and high school was the Art Club.
After high school, I studied art in England, Florida, Kansas and Iowa. I explored both two- and three-dimensional media, including drawing, design, watercolor, ceramics, sculpture, and jewelry. In 1977, I graduated from Grinnell College, Iowa, with a BA in Art and teaching certification. I was ready to reform the US school system as an Art Teacher.

I arrived in Fort Collins, Colorado, in 1978. My art career included working as an art and ceramics instructor for the Fort Collins Parks and Recreation department, and managing the local Pottery Studio. Securing a full-time teaching position with the school district was elusive, and after a very long year of substitute teaching, I took a 30 year detour into the world of banking, mortgage lending, and eventually real estate brokerage.
In recent years, my creative passion has become photography. I remember taking photos from the time I was 10 years old, but never formally studied photography. When I make photos, I’m enthralled with design and composition, the crossover between reality and abstraction, and light and shadow. The creative process involving these elements feels like play.
The Young Masters Art Gallery was established in 2002 to showcase the creations of young artists from my community, especially the children of my real estate clients. Over time, YMAG has evolved to represent my own creative projects as well, including Playshops that offer an opportunity for grownups to explore their creative gifts and “remain an artist”.
Since 2011, my photo calendar sales have enabled the Young Masters Art Gallery to donate $5,300 to area nonprofit organizations in need of financial assistance.
Thank you for visiting the Young Masters Art Gallery!
